Job Summary
Lead and coach a team of 5-6 engineers on backend platform modernization, migrating from legacy PHP/Scala to Java on AWS. Manage vehicle data ingestion, search ranking, billing logic, and fraud protection while driving operational excellence through on-call rotations and incident management. Partner with Product to define priorities, lead architecture discussions, and introduce AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery speed and software quality. Coordinate complex cross-team initiatives and establish strong operational practices for a business-critical platform.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams
- Strong prior experience as a hands-on software engineer
- Experience building and operating large-scale backend or distributed systems
- Strong background in object-oriented programming (preferably Java)
- Experience leading architecture and technical decision-making
- Experience introducing and running operational excellence practices, including on-call rotations, incident response and postmortems
- Proven ability to deliver complex cross-team initiatives with multiple stakeholders
- Passion for coaching engineers and building high-performing teams
Desired Qualifications
- Experience driving adoption of modern AI development practices within engineering teams is highly desirable
