Engineering Manager – High Speed Connectors

Job Summary

Lead the design, qualification, and global launch of next-generation High-Speed I/O connector products from concept through production. Provide technical leadership to a global engineering team and local test laboratory, mentoring talent and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Own end-to-end project execution, manage engineering deliverables including drawings and BOMs, and resolve design challenges while ensuring cost and reliability targets are met. Collaborate with Design, NPI, Operations, and manufacturing partners in China to transition products smoothly, and partner with customers and sales to define roadmaps and delivery timelines. Report monthly project status with risk mitigation plans to management. Located in Schaumburg, IL, this role offers visibility and influence across global teams and major Tier 1 OEMs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 10 to 15 + years of progressive engineering experience
  • 5 to 10+ years of project and/or people management experience
  • Working with global teams, customers, and manufacturing partners
  • Strong experience with 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks)
  • Deep knowledge of connector design or small mechanical/electrical components
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Metal stamping, injection molding, insert molding, and automated processes
  • Tolerance analysis and FEA simulation/modeling
  • Working knowledge of industry form factors: SFP, QSFP, QSFP-DD, OSFP
  • Familiarity with standard connector testing procedures and industry best practices
  • Strong ability to coordinate and influence global, cross-functional teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a calm, structured approach under pressure
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and leadership skills
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and team-building capabilities
  • System-level thinker with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple parallel programs in a fast-paced environment
  • Structured, disciplined approach to engineering development processes
  • Confident communicator who can translate complex technical concepts into clear messages
  • Passionate about mentoring engineers and building a high-performance technical culture
