Job Summary
Lead the Data Engineering function at DoorDash as Engineering Manager, Data, guiding the development of enterprise-scale data solutions and serving as a technical expert on data architecture. Build and nurture a top-performing team of data engineers and data scientists, foster an engineering culture of excellence, and empower engineers to deliver reliable, scalable data assets. Collaborate with stakeholders and partners to drive data-driven decisions, while hands-on involvement in shaping data architecture and mentoring engineers. Requirements include a PhD/MS/BS in Computer Science or equivalent, 10+ years in data engineering, 2+ years of hands-on management, strong leadership and communication skills, SQL and Python proficiency, and experience with Snowflake/Redshift, AWS/GCP, Hadoop/Spark, ETL orchestration, and modern data lake technologies.
Required Qualifications
- B.S., M.S., or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent
- 10+ years of experience working in data engineering or a related domain
- 2+ years of hands-on management experience
- Experience hiring and growing teams
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills
- Hands-on approach to closing gaps in data infrastructure and technical execution; ability to code in SQL and Python
- Prior experience with Snowflake/Redshift, AWS/GCP, Hadoop/Spark/Big data, Lambda/KAPPA architectures, Flink/Airflow
- Prior experience with large scale batch/real time ETL orchestration
- Experience with systems engineering and big data compute engines such as Apache Spark and Apache Flink
- Familiarity with Datalake solutions such as Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg
- Familiarity with AWS cloud environments
- Exposure to various databases such as CockroachDB, Cassandra, and PostgreSQL
