Job Summary
Set technical direction across backend, frontend, data, and third-party systems while balancing critical investments with new product delivery. Take holistic ownership of complex transactional systems spanning billing, accounting, member eligibility, and enrollment to define durable roadmaps. Recruit, mentor, and retain a team of engineers, actively coaching leaders to scale high-performing groups. Partner with product, data science, and operations to align on key programs, measure impact, and drive rapid iteration through experimentation. Maintain a careful balance between sustainable project building and shipping software to deliver immediate user value.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience managing and providing technical leadership to engineering teams
- Proven track record of hiring, coaching, or developing other engineering managers or team leads
- Deep technical expertise across backend, frontend, data, and integrations to third-party systems
- Strong familiarity in building distributed services using Python and/or Go
- Experience taking holistic ownership of complex transactional systems
- Specific experience in domains like billing, financial accounting, membership eligibility, or customer enrollment
- Track record of building, mentoring, and scaling highly diverse, inclusive, and high-performing engineering teams
- Ability to motivate and instill a strong sense of ownership in your team
- Ability to thrive in a heavily cross-functional environment
- Ability to drive projects to completion regardless of the organizational structure
- Ability to work well with product partners
- Ability to help set the product vision for an ambiguous project
- Must be able to follow Virta's security and privacy procedures
- Must be able to work in a remote-first environment
- Must be located in a state where Virta hires for Corporate roles (not AK, AR, DE, HI, ME, MS, NM, OK, SD, VT, WI)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in a HIPAA-compliant or similarly regulated environment (fintech, health tech, etc.)
