Job Summary
Hands-on Engineering Manager to build and lead Replit's Anti-Abuse team from the ground up. Define the anti-abuse roadmap and threat model, hire a small team of engineers and data analysts, and ship systems that protect Replit's platform, users, and economics from adversarial actors. Partner across Support, Legal, Security, Infrastructure, and the Money and Growth teams to make abuse economically unviable while keeping friction low for legitimate users. The role is 0-to-1 and requires building the ladder of trust, integrating with KYC-grade verification, and shipping detection and enforcement tooling using AI coding tools. Responsibilities include setting the roadmap, designing verification infrastructure, delivering hands-on engineering work, defining and tracking abuse-related metrics, hiring and growing a small high-leverage team, and collaborating cross-functionally to balance security with conversion.
Required Qualifications
- 6 to 10+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years managing teams, ideally in anti-abuse, trust and safety engineering, fraud, or an adjacent adversarial domain
- Hands-on engineering orientation: still writes code, reviews PRs, and prototypes; comfortable using AI coding tools
- Experience building detection and enforcement systems at scale: rules engines, ML-based risk scoring, reputation systems, identity and device signals
- Experience with identity, KYC, or progressive verification systems; knowledge of layering trust signals without wrecking conversion
- Strong product and metrics intuition; ability to define success metrics and build data infrastructure to measure them
- Experience operating cross-functionally with Support, Legal, Security, and Growth teams; ability to translate detections to business impact
- Crisp written communication and ability to operate in a ambiguous, 0-to-1 environment
- Nice to have: experience with AI-native abuse vectors, payment fraud, coupon abuse, or identity-provider integrations
- Experience at consumer platforms, developer tools, or cloud providers with meaningful abuse surface area
- Background in security, trust and safety, or fraud prevention at hypergrowth companies
