Job Summary
Lead backend and web engineering teams to build the receive-to-alias experience and platform, evolving the critical Wise infrastructure that powers international payments for millions of customers. Collaborate with Product to define the roadmap for the next two quarters, prioritizing work that localizes the account details experience and enhances trust in receiving money. Mentor engineers while delivering cross-team initiatives that break complex projects into incremental milestones, ensuring clean, performant code and adherence to best practices. Join a 24/7 on-call rotation, typically every 6-10 weeks, to support critical services and drive continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Experience leading teams and expand products in order to navigate to ongoing expansion
- A strong product mindset and passion for user experience, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points
- Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Leading and inspiring your team of engineers to build the prioritise building right things, in the right way
- Ability to deliver work across multiple teams, coordinating your efforts across the organisation
- Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones that deliver customer value
- Experience in developing web applications and distributed systems in a production environment
- Experience with common design and architectural patterns coupled with a passion for writing clean code that is performant and well tested
- Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement
- Following and advocating best coding practices, continuous delivery and code reviews
- Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas
- Knowledge of Java and Spring boot and experience with a messaging system, like Kafka
