Engineering Field Technician

Job Summary

Conduct engineering field inspections including manhole assessments, smoke testing, flow monitoring, GPS locates, and water dye testing. Install flow monitoring systems within sewer manholes and operate instruments while accurately documenting findings with detailed field notes. Maintain all required safety certifications such as OSHA 10 Hour, confined space, and CPR/First Aid, adhering to safety requirements while assisting team members. Work outside year-round in all conditions, standing and walking for up to eight hours daily, and travel up to 75% of the time by car or plane. Variable schedule may include weekends and overtime.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Active DOT Medical certification or the ability to obtain this certification
  • Safety training and certifications which may include, but are not limited to: OSHA 10 Hour, confined space, CPR/First Aid, defensive driving, and spotter's training; or the ability to obtain these certifications
  • Ability to meet the assigned company's regulatory insurance requirements for owned autos determined through Motor Vehicle Record Check (MVR)
  • Meeting safety device manufacturer's maximum rated load capacity of no greater than 310lbs
  • Standing and walking for durations which could exceed 8 hours in a day
  • Using hands and fingers to control, handle and feel objects
  • Seeing details of objects from a distance
  • Working outside year-round in all conditions present
  • Entering sewer manholes
  • Climb stairs and walk on uneven terrain
  • Squat and crawl
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds when necessary
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to interpret and manipulate simple computer software programs
  • Ability to utilize a tablet for purposes of documenting field inspections
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit number and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
  • Ability to perform these operations using unity of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to read a ruler to 1/16"
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • May be required to travel up to 75% of the time by car or plane
  • May be required to work weekends
  • Variable schedule
  • May be required to work overtime

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Environmental Science, Geology, Geography or a related field
  • Preferred experience in engineering field inspections
