Engineer - Tunnel Ventilation Systems and FLS

Job Summary
Develop ventilation models and engineering assessments by preparing calculations, system layouts, and mechanical design drawings for tunnel projects. Support simulation development using 1D tools like SES and IDA Tunnel, alongside 3D fire and smoke modeling with FDS/PyroSim and occupant egress analysis via Pathfinder. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs comply with codes and standards while contributing to technical reports and documentation. Participate in design reviews and workshops to refine integrated tunnel and station solutions. Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering, proficiency in relevant simulation software, and bilingual English/Spanish skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline
- Professional proficiency in both English and Spanish
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment
Desired Qualifications
- Additional training in tunnel ventilation, fire safety engineering, or CFD simulation
- Suitable for engineers with up to 2 years of experience in a related field
- Strong interest in tunnel ventilation, fire life safety engineering, fluid dynamics, and simulation-based design
- Familiarity with SES, IDA Tunnel or equivalent tunnel ventilation simulation software
- Familiarity with FDS and/or PyroSim
- Experience with ANSYS Fluent or equivalent CFD software
- Familiarity with standards such as NFPA 130, PIARC recommendations, EU Directive 2004/54/EC, or other tunnel fire life safety guidelines
- Basic knowledge of Python, VBA, or other scripting tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and basic experience with Revit or CAD
- Ability to carefully assess and analyse information with precision
- Confidence in presenting ideas and communicating effectively
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies
