Job Summary
Engineer - Should Cost/Value Engineer for medical devices. Responsible for understanding manufacturing processes and design of mechanical parts to drive cost evaluation, should-costing, and value engineering. Develop cost models using costing tools, conduct DFMA/DFM analyses, and perform cost benchmarking. Liaise with stakeholders to gather inputs and create outputs for agile cost sprint execution; present insights in simple PPT formats to support supplier negotiations and guide business decisions. Tear down commodity products to identify material and process opportunities; read and interpret GD&T drawings; design, develop, modify, and verify mechanical components for medical devices; assist with prototyping and bench testing; conduct root cause analysis and evaluate solutions; align with regulatory and design controls procedures; collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management; travel up to 10%; role may involve remote work as applicable and may require onsite at times depending on project needs.
Required Qualifications
- Engineering degree (or equivalent knowledge)
- Minimum 3+ years of experience
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience in FDA-regulated or regulated environments (beneficial)
- Proficiency with reading and interpreting complex drawings and GD&T
- Proficiency with CAD/CAE modeling tools and basic analysis methods
- Ability to develop and present cost models and deliverables (PPT) for supplier negotiations
- Travel approximately 10%
- Experience in cost reduction/optimization through value engineering and should-costing
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and design principles in a regulated setting
- Proactive, self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and documentation skills (Design History File, design controls)
- Experience with BOM creation and prototyping/bench testing
