Job Summary
Engineer – Nuclear Plant Support Equipment actively contributes to the design and delivery of plant support equipment enabling construction, operation, and decommissioning of SMR power stations. Responsible for performing design tasks across the lifecycle (concept to detailed design, substantiation, and delivery), producing calculations, CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation; defining equipment requirements; collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated engineering solutions; participating in design reviews and stakeholder engagements; ensuring regulatory compliance and traceability through structured engineering approaches; identifying risks early and supporting resolution; contributing to through-life considerations including installation, maintenance, and decommissioning; working in a hybrid environment with Derby, Manchester, or Warrington bases and potentially travel between sites. The role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, experience in design engineering in complex or regulated industries, familiarity with CAD tools, and a proactive, detail-oriented, collaborative mindset. Additional context includes BPSS/DBS screening as part of the safety process and a supportive, inclusive culture with flexible hybrid working.
Required Qualifications
- Degree, HND, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in design engineering, ideally within complex or regulated industries
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with ambiguity
- Experience producing technical documentation such as calculations, drawings, or reports
- Understanding of mechanical design principles and familiarity with CAD tools
- Exposure to industries such as nuclear, aerospace, subsea, or similar is advantageous
- Awareness of engineering lifecycle processes including verification and validation
- Knowledge of safety and regulatory environments is beneficial
- Proactive mindset with strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
