Job Summary
Engineer I – Manufacturing role focused on sustaining module performance (yield, efficiency, reliability), defining problem statements, cross-functional issue characterization, and transferring technology from pilot line to satellite sites. Responsibilities include sustaining day-to-day production within SPC limits, leading cross-functional discussions, designing statistical experiments, analyzing data to drive improvements, supporting technology transfer and ramp activities, providing engineering support across multiple departments, and developing training for technicians and operators. Requires degrees in engineering with related experience or equivalent certifications/experience; proficiency in statistical methods (SPC, DOE, DMAIC), and strong communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in engineering or similar technical discipline plus 3+ years of First Solar technical experience, or 6+ years of technical work experience in manufacturing; Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in engineering with no experience required (experience with degree preferred); journeyman or certifications in relevant disciplines with significant industry experience accepted in lieu of degree; experience in high volume ramp or tech transfer desired; background in semiconductor, PV, or electronic process technology or material science and device physics; experience with cross-functional teams; proficiency in statistical data analysis; familiarity with JMP and SAS preferred; knowledge of DOE, SPC, DMAIC, FMEA; project management experience preferred; ability to work with minimal supervision; travel 0-5%; clear safety and PPE compliance; strong written and oral communications; willingness to train engineers and technicians; ability to lead cross-functional discussions; strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
