Engineer Manager - Platform
HybridWrocław, Lower Silesia, Poland
Job Summary
Lead the EU/US Platform engineering team, managing day-to-day people operations for a geographically distributed group of platform engineers. Drive the roadmap forward by executing deliverables under the Director of Engineering while unblocking external dependencies. Coach team members transitioning from SRE/infrastructure backgrounds into product-oriented platform engineering, fostering ownership and customer-first thinking. Coordinate large-scale cross-team changes such as k8s upgrades and tooling migrations, ensuring alignment across multiple stakeholders and time zones. Maintain platform reliability by participating in the on-call rotation and upholding operational excellence standards. Establish and track SLAs, error budgets, and change failure rates to prioritize work and communicate health to stakeholders. Partner with architects to define platform direction and prioritization within compliance and security guardrails.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of engineering management experience leading platform, DevOps, or SRE teams
- Proven ability to lead and grow engineers through skill transitions - especially from operational/SRE roles into product-oriented platform engineering
- Strong experience with Kubernetes-based platforms (EKS preferred) - Including cluster lifecycle, upgrades at scale, and cross-team rollout coordination
- Solid understanding of the AWS ecosystem and how it underpins enterprise platform infrastructure
- A genuine dependency-unblocking mindset – You'll know how to drive cross-team commitments, escalate constructively, and keep complex multi-team deliverables on track
- Data-driven approach to platform management - You'll be comfortable defining and tracking SLAs, KPIs, change failure rates, and error budgets
- Familiarity with compliance and security constraints in a regulated environment - You do not treat them as blockers but as guardrails to engineer around
- Strong leadership instincts - You set a high bar, give clear feedback, and build psychological safety
Desired Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Port.io, OpsLevel, or a similar Internal Developer Platform product
- Familiarity with GitOps tooling (ArgoCD, Crossplane, Kyverno)
- AWS and/or Kubernetes certifications
- Experience in CFIUS-regulated or similarly complex compliance environments
- Background as a platform/SRE engineer before moving into management (you understand the work from the inside)
