Job Summary
NOC Engineer III will serve as the escalation SME within the Network Operations Center, providing 24/7 support to resolve complex voice and data issues. The role involves training the NOC, maintaining and updating knowledgebase and technical documentation, directing incident response, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors, and performing hardware/software upgrades with post-verification. Key duties include creating/training documentation, improving processes, managing tasks with minimal supervision, and ensuring SLA/MTTR adherence. The position requires strong troubleshooting, verbal and written communication, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and experience with network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, VoIP/SIP, xDSL, microwave), as well as experience with routing protocols (BGP/OSPF/ISIS) and Layer 1-3 technologies. A college degree in engineering or a related field and 5+ years of relevant experience are expected, with vendor certifications preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Education: College degree in Engineering or a related field; 5+ years professional level experience; or 8+ years related engineering/technical experience
- Vendor certifications strongly preferred (BTI, Cisco, Ciena, Adtran, Juniper, Fortinet, VeloCloud, etc.)
- Minimum 5+ years in a Tier 2 or 3 network operations support role
- Experience with data/wireless networks and components
- Strong knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS) and Layer 2 protocols
- Experience with VoIP and TDM services, SIP, SS7, ISDN
- Ability to perform on-call support and manage escalated issues
- Ability to train and create/update technical documentation
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills
- Ability to coordinate with 3rd party vendors/suppliers
- Experience with Visio and network documentation
