Job Summary

Engineer II sought to join the Conjugation Process Development and Manufacturing group within the CMC organization to contribute to development, scale up, and manufacturing of multi-valent polysaccharide-based conjugate vaccines leveraging a carrier protein produced through cell-free synthesis. The role involves laboratory development and cGMP manufacturing activities, operating and maintaining lab equipment (including chemical reactors, TFF systems, HPLCs, and plate readers), designing and executing development studies to optimize conjugation processes, providing technical oversight during cGMP production campaigns, reviewing protocols and batch records, serving as SME for conjugation activities, contributing to facility/equipment design for scale-up, developing conjugation processes for pipeline programs, maintaining proper documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support program objectives. The position requires a PhD with 2-5 years, MS with 7+ years, or BS with 10+ years of relevant experience, strong bioprocess knowledge, cGMP experience, and excellent communication skills. Location: San Carlos, CA. Work arrangement: Onsite 5 days per week. Compensation: $146,000–$171,000 (SF Bay Area). Equal opportunity employer.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD with 2-5 years of experience in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related discipline
  • MS with minimum 7 years of experience in Chemical/ Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline
  • BS/BA with minimum 10 years of experience in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline
  • Practical experience with bioprocess operations at bench, pilot, or manufacturing scale
  • Strong working knowledge of cGMP principles and their application in bioprocess environments
  • Foundational understanding of engineering principles relevant to bioprocess development and scale up
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and JMP
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross functional teams and manage multiple concurrent activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
