Job Summary
Conduct thermo-hydraulic safety analysis for nuclear reactor systems using approved codes like RELAP and TRACE to evaluate transient and accident scenarios for core heat removal and defense-in-depth. Support verification and validation activities for analysis software, contribute to Phenomena Identification and Ranking Tables, and assist in establishing safety limits and margins for TRISO fuel and high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology. Collaborate with engineering disciplines to ensure analysis assumptions align with design basis and provide technical input for cooling requirements and operational limitations. Develop technical documentation for regulatory submittals, including safety analysis reports and code applicability responses, while maintaining work products to NQA-1 quality assurance standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (nuclear, chemical, mechanical, etc.) or related degree from an accredited institution
- Level I: Typically, zero- two years of experience in an engineering role required
- Level II: Typically, three years of experience in an engineering role required
- Level III: Typically, five years of experience in an engineering role required
- A master's degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience)
- A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience)
- Coursework, academic, or professional exposure to thermo-hydraulics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, or reactor systems analysis is preferred
- Familiarity with thermal-hydraulic system codes (RELAP, TRACE, GOTHIC, Flownex, or similar) is preferred but not required
- Familiarity with V&V or Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) activities is a plus
