Job Summary
Apply engineering principles to the design and construction of power system projects by preparing calculations, cost estimates, and technical specifications. Develop design alternatives, review contractor designs for quality assurance, and support construction teams during project execution. Utilize engineering software to create documentation while estimating materials and assisting with procurement. Ensure compliance with Southern Company standards, safety requirements, and industry regulations through collaboration with internal departments and vendors. This 4-month-to-hire entry-level role supports utility infrastructure projects for recent graduates or engineers with up to five years of experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university
- 0–5 years of engineering experience
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles, design practices, and construction processes
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to learn engineering software and utility design standards
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Desired Qualifications
- Internship or co-op experience in electric utilities, power generation, transmission, distribution, or industrial facilities
- Familiarity with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other utility design applications
- Knowledge of construction estimating and project documentation
- EIT (Engineer in Training) certification or progress toward licensure is a plus
