Job Summary
Electrical Engineer (Sr) at Blue Origin/Honeybee Robotics in Altadena, CA, focusing on flight avionics development, hardware integration, and high-reliability electronics for space exploration. Responsible for technical leadership of a small engineering team, budgeting and scheduling oversight, mentoring juniors, and defining standardized processes. Design, manufacture, and checkout of custom PCBs for avionics, harness design and assembly instructions for high-reliability applications, and EGSE design/documentation. Define and execute tests across avionics development labs, environmental test labs, radiation test labs, and vendor test labs. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to identify capabilities, risks, opportunities, and solutions throughout the product lifecycle, with emphasis on hands-on problem solving and quality. Requires strong hands-on experience in electronics product development, systems integration, and experience with radiation considerations; onsite role in Altadena, CA with relocation assistance.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
- 9+ years of developing and testing complex hardware equipment over the entire product lifecycle
- Ability to work independently on rapid development programs
- Strong understanding of electronics product development with expertise in systems integration
- Experience with design, manufacturing, and checkout of high-reliability PCBs for avionics applications
- Experience defining and executing tests at various labs (integrated assembly, environmental, radiation, vendor)
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Familiarity with complex computational devices to monitor sensors and drive actuators
- Proficiency with scripting/programming tools (Python, C, C++, MATLAB/Simulink)
- Experience leading development and testing of embedded/motorized/power systems
- Experience with worst-case analysis, FEA, and FMEA
- Experience with radiation-hardness concepts and radiation mitigation strategies
- Graduate degree in related field (preferred)
- 12+ years of hardware development lifecycle experience (preferred)
