Job Summary
The Broadcast IT Engineer will provide and perform all information technology support for the station, and to assist with installation and setup of other digital broadcast systems. This role administers IT policies and procedures, maintains servers, printers, VPN, wireless access points, domain controllers, and PC workstations, and manages all broadcast and technology related equipment within the facility. Responsible for supporting the station’s IT and broadcast infrastructure across Engineering, News, Production, and Sales departments; manages the News production server system, News content storage and playout system, graphics and editing systems. Participates in implementing new technologies and technical infrastructure, evaluates, installs, and maintains facility broadcast equipment and IT systems, and ensures compliance with FCC/local/state/federal rules. Requires collaboration with management to meet company objectives and may require extended hours, including overnight and weekends. Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience is required; strong IT and networking background with hands-on experience in Windows/Linux environments, AD/VPN, AV/ editing systems, and broadcast automation experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required
- Strong Information Technology background and networking skills required
- Microsoft and Cisco certifications are a plus
- Experience with remote desktop applications and VPN required
- Knowledge and experience with Adobe editing systems required
- 3 years previous broadcast engineering experience
- Experience with AV switching, video encoding/decoding and file transcoding a plus
- Fluency in English; strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- The ability to terminate broadcast and IT related cables is required
- Experience with Broadcast automation systems, routers, video storage devices, SAN storage, Isilon storage, satellite ground stations, and RF preferred
- Ability to identify the development needs of others and coach/mentor others to improve their knowledge and/or skills
- Ability to work extended hours as needed, may include overnight and weekends
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Can-Do attitude, desire to learn new skills consistent with good engineering/IT practices
