Job Summary
Facilitate large and small group activities for older adults with dementia, providing emotional support, personal care, and dining assistance while maintaining dignity and privacy. Under the direction of the Engagement Coordinator, observe and communicate changes in client status to the Program Manager and interdisciplinary team to support responsive care planning. Assist with safe boarding and exiting of program vehicles, provide behavioral support through companionship and redirection, and help Members with ambulation, transfers, and toileting. Serve and accommodate clients during meal times, maintain program cleanliness, and greet visitors while adhering to safety protocols and confidentiality standards. Complete required training modules including the Best FriendsTM Approach and participate in staff meetings.
Required Qualifications
- At least one year experience working with persons with dementia and/or other special needs
- Demonstrated experience serving older adults living with dementia, including those who may at times exhibit responsive or complex behaviors
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to transfer up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to reach, bend and walk
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of dementia-specific training, such as: David Troxel's Best FriendsTM Approach, and/or other recognized dementia care education (e.g., Teepa Snow / Positive Approach to Care, Alzheimer's Association programs, Dementia Care Specialist coursework)
- College degree (BA) preferred, with coursework in psychology, social services, gerontology, or a related field
