Energy Modeler and Technology Analyst

Job Summary

Conduct technology characterization and modelling of sub-sectors within the IEA Global Energy and Climate Model, collaborating closely with analysts to ensure proper teamwork. Deliver quantitative analysis on energy technology trends for flagship publications like Energy Technology Perspectives and the State of Energy Innovation, while drafting reports, working papers, and briefing notes for senior management. Liaise with national delegations, international organizations, and the private sector to support standing committees and external workshops, maintaining contacts for market assessments. Stay abreast of developments in member and non-member countries to inform thought-leading analysis of future energy trends.

Required Qualifications

  • An advanced university degree(s) in relevant disciplines, such as engineering, mathematics or economics
  • At least three to seven years' experience in applied economic and policy analysis, preferably within an energy context
  • Excellent understanding of energy sector dynamics
  • Excellent quantitative background and experience in the construction and use of large scale energy models and datasets
  • Proven analytical abilities and excellent writing skills as demonstrated in past work products (analytical reports, quantitative analysis, operative models, and/or published papers)
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, Access and Power Query
  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Python, R, TIMES, Matlab and/or Vensim is an asset
