Job Summary

Energy Master Planner at AECOM focuses on developing integrated energy strategies for communities, campuses, and large-scale developments. Responsibilities include conducting technical assessments of building and campus energy demand, supporting energy supply strategy development using modelling tools, preparing high-quality analyses and client-facing presentations, contributing to proposals, supporting project delivery, and participating in stakeholder engagement activities (workshops, charrettes, interviews). The role requires strong analytical capability, ability to translate technical data into practical solutions, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, planning, and sustainability disciplines. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree and 6+ years of relevant experience, experience with energy modelling tools (e.g., IESVE, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, eQuest), familiarity with district energy, microgrids, decarbonization strategies, and professional designation (P.Eng, OAQ, or equivalent).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental studies, planning, architecture, or a related field
  • 4 years + of relevant experience in energy planning, sustainability, or infrastructure-related analysis
  • Strong understanding of energy systems, including building and/or district energy concepts
  • Experience with energy modelling, data analysis, or sustainability assessment tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (French is an asset in Canada)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under limited supervision
  • Experience preparing technical reports and client-facing presentations
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills in multidisciplinary environments
  • Master’s degree in a related field (energy, engineering, sustainability, urban planning, or similar)
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with energy modelling tools (e.g., IESVE, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, eQuest, or similar platforms)
  • Experience with existing building energy audits
  • Familiarity with district energy, microgrids, and decarbonization strategies
  • Experience in consulting or working with public/private sector clients
  • Knowledge of net-zero planning, GHG accounting, or climate resilience frameworks
  • Experience supporting proposals, business development, or project scoping
  • Exposure to stakeholder engagement processes (workshops, charrettes, interviews)
  • Professional designation or eligibility (e.g., P.Eng, OAQ, or equivalent depending on discipline)
