Energy Development Manager

Job Summary
Conduct customer discovery meetings, site assessments, and strategic planning discussions to identify and develop hybrid energy savings projects involving HVAC upgrades, controls modernization, and infrastructure improvements. Serve as a primary technical and financial resource during presentations, sales strategy sessions, and executive-level project discussions to help convert facility challenges into funded initiatives. Lead or oversee facility energy evaluations, savings analyses, and financial modeling while ensuring recommendations are technically sound and aligned with customer objectives. Partner with sales, operations, and controls teams to incorporate controls strategies into energy audits and assist in developing practical business cases for capital replacement opportunities. Maintain oversight of existing Measurement & Verification obligations and support future performance-contract opportunities. Manage and mentor energy engineers and analysts to establish consistent processes and project-development templates. Travel overnight up to 25% of the time.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical contracting, project development, energy services, controls, facility infrastructure, technical sales support, or related industries
- Strong customer-facing communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Experience supporting project development, capital planning, engineering consulting, technical sales support, energy services, and financial justifications for capital improvement projects
- Working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, controls, facility operations, energy savings principles
- Ability to translate technical information into practical business value for customers and internal teams
- Strong Excel, financial modeling, report writing, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-selling environment
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple opportunities, priorities, and stakeholders
- Ability to travel overnight up to 25%
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, energy management, business, or related technical discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification or MBA
- Experience with performance contracting, Measurement & Verification, utility incentives, energy services agreements, HVAC controls, BAS modernization, and controls optimization
