Job Summary
The Energy Code Compliance Specialist will review permit applications and construction documents for compliance with adopted energy codes, conduct on-site inspections, and serve as a technical resource for contractors, designers, homeowners, developers, and City staff. Responsibilities include explaining energy code requirements, coordinating with the Chief Building Official on implementation strategies, monitoring national/state/regional code developments, supporting updates to building and energy codes, coordinating best practices with other jurisdictions, leading or supporting public engagement and education on energy codes, evaluating incentives and regulatory approaches to improve energy efficiency, and assisting with administrative tasks to support permitting and inspection operations. The role supports climate and sustainability objectives, including embodied carbon reduction, construction waste diversion, and commercial building benchmarking, and participates in internal committees and training as required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Three (3) years of inspection, plan review, energy auditing, or other relevant experience in building construction, energy efficiency, or code compliance
- Colorado Driver’s license with a clean driving record
- ICC or equivalent certification in at least two of the following categories: Residential Mechanical, Commercial Mechanical, Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner, Commercial Energy Inspector, Commercial Energy Plans Examiner
