Job Summary
Respond to calls via ambulance, assessing patients and handling emergencies using Basic Life Support, CPR, and semi-automatic defibrillators. Stabilize injuries, manage environmental emergencies, and administer emergency medications per state and local protocols. Drive the ambulance to emergency sites, navigate traffic ordinances, and determine appropriate medical facilities for ongoing care. Communicate with dispatchers, gain scene access, extricate entrapped patients, and monitor vital signs. Report patient status and care provided to receiving facilities and medical control physicians. Maintain ambulance readiness, check equipment, clean contaminated supplies, and properly dispose of medical waste. Assist with patient lifting and loading, and work rotating shifts in transport, 911 EMS, or Dispatch units as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with no more than 2 points
- NYS DOH EMT Certification current
- Ability to read a map
- Ability to handle electronics such as radios
- Knowledge and skill for all necessary equipment
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year job-related experience
- Must be able to Lift 125 pounds alone and 250 pounds with assistance
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish
- Must have at least 2 years working experience for the position they seek
- Successfully complete an approved NYS EMT-B or AEMT course
- 2 years working experience
