Job Summary
Assess illness or injury to prioritize medical procedures, stabilize cardiac and non-breathing patients, and administer initial treatment at emergency scenes. Record vital signs, communicate with hospital personnel via HEMSI-approved methods, and document all patient care in approved reporting systems. Maintain up-to-date credentials, ensure insurable driving status, and keep the emergency vehicle and station clean, stocked, and in constant readiness. Observe safety and security procedures while assisting in the coordination of additional personnel on scene. Meet HEMSI standards on response times and provide excellent customer service to patients and families.
Required Qualifications
- State of Alabama EMSP License as EMT
- Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
- EVOC
- Valid and current driver's license
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- undergraduate EMT certificate
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to legibly write routine reports and correspondence
