Job Summary

Conduct standardized didactic and psychomotor instruction for US Air Force Medical Technicians in classrooms, laboratories, and outdoor environments at Fort Sam Houston. Deliver training on basic anatomy, cardiac life support, trauma treatment, and emergency wound care while reviewing lesson plans, preparing instructional aids, and administering evaluations. Monitor student academic and behavioral performance, counsel trainees, and maintain comprehensive training records. Develop and revise instructional programs, proofread curriculum materials, and serve as a subject matter expert for sustainment training products. Ensure classroom equipment is operational, enforce standards of conduct, and participate in in-service refresher sessions to apply best instructional methods. Maintain satisfactory instructor evaluation ratings and adapt to changing course requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) program
  • Minimum of an associate degree related to the teaching discipline awarded from an accredited institution
  • Possess and maintain a national certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Possess and maintain a national certification as a Nationally Registered Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (NRAEMT)
  • Possess and maintain a national certification as a Paramedic
  • Maintain Basic Life Support certification through the American Red Cross
  • No less than five years of EMS field experience as an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic after certification
  • Physically fit and able to perform tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from ground to waist level
  • Ability to sit, bend, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to coordinate activities closely with others in stressful situations
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbal and written English
  • Ability to take direction and adapt to changing situations/job duties

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skills as they pertain to Emergency Medical Technician Department of Transportation (DOT) curriculum and objectives
  • Advanced trauma treatment using tenants of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3)
  • Knowledge and skills of a first responder
  • Knowledge and skill of limited medications as they apply to limited primary care
  • Knowledge and skill of physical and emotional reactions to a variety of treatment procedures, medical evaluation, procedures and treatment, trauma scenario development
