Job Summary
Operate an emergency vehicle and provide medical treatment and stabilization for all patients using definitive techniques under physician direction and Gold Cross EMS protocols. Take command of medical emergencies within your scope of practice, manage unit inventory and equipment maintenance, and ensure all drugs, IV fluids, and supplies are properly accounted for. Maintain thorough knowledge of the service area, hospital locations, and radio signals while participating in required educational classes. Drive safely in accordance with emergency vehicle operations guidelines and assist with station cleanliness and general maintenance as directed by the Field Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Valid State EMS License
- Thorough knowledge of Gold Cross EMS patient care protocols
- Thorough knowledge of GCEMS territory, street names, and number system of streets
- Thorough knowledge of the location of hospitals and emergency departments in the service area
- Thorough knowledge of navigation using maps and/or a computerized mapping system
- Knowledge of medical codes and pertinent GCEMS radio signals and procedures
- Up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of emergency medicine relative to pre-hospital treatment or medical emergencies
- Ability to conduct or participate in all educational classes as needed
- Ability to ensure the unit, all drugs, IV fluids, supplies, and equipment are properly inventoried and accounted for according to current policy and procedure
- Ability to maintain thorough up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of emergency medicine relative to pre-hospital treatment or medical emergencies through independent study
- Ability to keep abreast of any changes of status, conditions, or operational procedure of the unit or equipment
- Ability to take command of a medical emergency to the appropriate scope of practice for level held
- Ability to report to a GCEMS officer for instructions when one is on scene
- Ability to present an up-to-date account of actions that have taken place to a GCEMS officer
- Ability to work as a team in a spirit of partnership
- Ability to drive in a safe and appropriate manner with Due Regard consistent with training and guidelines established in the EMS emergency vehicle operations course
- Ability to comply with all applicable departmental and company policies, procedures, directives, and protocols
- Ability to assist as required by departmental needs with other tasks as assigned by the on-duty Field Supervisor, or other Administrative Officer
- Ability to assist with logistics and/or maintenance duties as departmental needs dictate
- Ability to participate in EMS duties for overall cleanliness and general maintenance to include office, station, parking lot, unit, and equipment
- Must be 21 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Current driver's license
- Ability to provide a current Motor Vehicle Report and meet the current driver standards set by the company's insurance provider
- Current State of Georgia EMT-R, EMT, EMT-Intermediate, or Advanced EMT certification or current South Carolina EMT or Advanced EMT certification with National Registry certification
- Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification
- Ability to sign a drug-free workplace agreement upon hire
