Job Summary
Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures in accordance with statewide Treatment Protocols and HEMSI Medical Control Physicians. Administer initial treatment at emergency scenes, stabilize cardiac and pulselessness patients, and record vital signs. Maintain insurable driving status, communicate with hospital personnel via approved methods, and document patient care using HEMSI reporting systems. Restock supplies, perform vehicle maintenance, and ensure constant unit readiness while observing safety procedures. Meet HEMSI response time standards and maintain acceptable attendance. Requires State of Alabama EMSP License, current driver's license, and CPR certification.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- State of Alabama EMSP License as EMT
- Valid and current driver's license
- Healthcare Provider CPR Certification upon hire or obtained within provisional period
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to legibly write routine reports and correspondence
