Job Summary
EMS Technician – Level II supports energy management and building automation initiatives, taking on advanced technical responsibilities under supervision of Level III and/or a Project Manager. Responsibilities include identifying equipment types, installing and explaining ARC 156 rules, calibrating sensors, diagnosing wiring and network issues (including Diag485), configuring ALC software and IP addressing for routers, performing field programming and commissioning, assisting with lighting system integration and checkouts, and assisting Level III/PMs during inspections. Proficient in BACnet, Modbus, MSTP; familiar with third-party system integrations, electrical diagrams, and Test & Balance activities using WebCTRL; capable of independent commissioning and providing backups storage. Leadership duties begin with guiding Level I technicians and coordinating tasks across projects. Location noted as Richardson, TX with in-person work requirement.
Required Qualifications
- Identify equipment types relevant to the controls industry
- Install and apply ARC 156 rules and devices
- Explain ARC 156 rules
- Basic understanding of temperature and humidity control processes
- Interpret and analyze equipment schematics
- Diagnose and resolve wiring issues including interlocks
- Navigate ALC logic to locate request sources for equipment
- Assign IP addresses to ALC routers (LGRs, Opti-Flex, G Series)
- Calibrate sensors (temperature, airflow, pressure, humidity, gas)
- Understand ALC modules, configurations, applications
- Diagnose network issues using Diag485
- Basics of mechanical piping and ductwork
- Configure system runtime and equipment request logic within ALC software
- Install thermowells, pressure sensors, temperature probes
- Install interlock wiring for drives, high static pressure limits, dampers
- Understand static/differential pressure principles
- Perform minor field program/graphic updates
- Knowledge of lighting panels and interlocks
- Contribute to lighting system integration and checkouts
- Understand BACnet, Modbus, MSTP
- Navigate full lifecycle of third-party integrations
- Read electrical one-line diagrams
- Assist Test & Balance teams using WebCTRL
- Independently execute commissioning process
- Manage system backups
- Assist Level III technicians or PMs during inspections
- Understand PID control and parameter adjustment
- Identify air handling units (SZ, MZ, VAV, DOAS, MAU, OA, ERU, FCU)
- Checkout/startup for SZAHU, DDAHU, MAU, FCU
- Checkout/startup with guidance for MZAHU, VAVAHU, ERU, OA
- Commission various fans (OA, SA, RA, EF, TEF, garage, stairwell)
- Understand central plant systems
- Support mission-critical checkouts and commissioning tasks
- Lead/mentor Level I technicians
- Manage multiple tasks across projects
