Job Summary

Provide vocational services to persons supported by Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga. Work with employers to help develop job positions for individuals facing challenges with mental health. Duties include teaching clients to manage independent job skills using job task analysis and supports (including assistive technology), building a support network among clients, co-workers, and supervisors, advocating for clients with community employers, educating employers on the benefits of hiring workers with disabilities, coordinating flexible schedules, arranging transportation to and from work, orienting clients to procedures and culture, communicating client progress to employers and supports, providing in-person follow-along services per funder guidelines, advocating for consistent service delivery across work, home, social, and personal needs, identifying natural workplace supports, determining job duties and presenting them in accessible formats, mediating conflicts with co-workers or employers, and performing other duties as assigned. Also involved in Job Developing/Marketing: maintaining knowledge about job openings, accessing sources of job openings, demonstrating the benefits of employing individuals with disabilities to potential employers, and teaching clients to manage skills and responsibilities, build a support network, advocate for clients, educate employers on benefits, and perform other duties as assigned. Note emphasizes illustrative tasks and requirement for following supervisory direction. Roles are in Employment Services as a part-time position with a focus on assisting clients with disabilities in employment contexts.

Required Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services with 1 year of experience in a vocational setting OR Associate’s degree with 5 years’ experience in a vocational setting
  • Credentials: Valid NY State Driver License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding and knowledge of OMH, ACCES and ADA
  • Knowledge of employer expectations and local job market
  • Experience working with individuals receiving support for a mental health condition
  • Demonstrate ethical business practices in conformance with all state and federal laws and regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties
  • Willingness to foster agency, department and program-wide cooperation and teamwork
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of all records
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office, and multiple online software platforms as required by funders and partner organizations
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
