Job Summary
Handles litigation management, legal research, drafting and related tasks for labor and employment matters including class actions and single plaintiff cases (e.g., alleged meal and rest period violations, wage and hour issues, misclassification, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, breach of contract, and wrongful termination). May draft and negotiate employment, termination/severance, and related agreements; advise on reductions in force. Advises on restrictive covenants, employee mobility, compensation practices, commission plans, employee policies/training and leave practices. Requires JD and California bar admission; typically 2+ years of experience in labor and employment, including litigation, and advice and counsel work. Strong written and verbal communication, research, analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent organizational abilities; ability to work both collaboratively and independently; conceptual thinking and persuasive communication. Positions at DLA Piper with California offices (San Francisco, Palo Alto, Los Angeles, or San Diego) with a hybrid in-office presence and some flexibility for remote work.
Required Qualifications
- JD
- Bar admission admitted to practice in California
- Minimum 2 years of experience in labor and employment, including litigation, and advice and counsel work
- Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws, including wage/hour laws, California Labor Code, discrimination laws, and practice before state and federal court and agencies
- Experience in defense of class and collective actions, as well as PAGA claims
- Trial experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills
