Job Summary
Employee Benefits Practice Leader role leading the benefits department in the DMV area. Responsibilities include overseeing renewals, advising on compliance and plan design, developing short- and long-term benefits strategies, analyzing claims and plan design, managing VIP accounts, organizing client-facing events, driving business development, onboarding and retention, and partnering with carrier representatives. The position requires leading and mentoring the account management team, leveraging analytics to improve service, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure high client satisfaction. Travel to meet clients and participate in industry events is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Life & Health Insurance license
- Minimum 12 years’ experience in employee benefits account management
- At least 6 years in a team leadership role
- Deep knowledge of the Life & Health insurance market, including products, underwriting, claims, and regulations
- Experience with both fully insured and self-funded arrangements
- Experience managing a book of business in the 50–500 employee segment
- Advanced professional designations (GBA, RPA, CEBS, SPHR, CLU) preferred
- Strong communication skills and proficiency with agency management systems and office software
- Demonstrated success in business development and relationship management
- Experience leading client renewal meetings and negotiating with carriers
- Willingness and ability to lead client presentations and mentor producers
- Analytical mindset with strong data interpretation skills
- Travel required
