Job Summary
Per diem Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician at VEG in Commack, NY. You’ll be on the front lines of emergency veterinary care, handling triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, monitoring, and critical care nursing while collaborating with doctors and teammates. Responsibilities include nursing care from first triage to discharge, IVs and CRIs, blood transfusions, anesthesia, imaging, endoscopy, ultrasound, sample collection, CPR readiness, and applying advanced techniques such as central lines and other advanced procedures. Strong emphasis on compassionate communication with pet parents, teamwork, leadership in care planning, and maintaining efficient, emotionally intelligent care under pressure. Requires CVT/RVT/LVT/LVMT credentials in the practice state and 1+ year of veterinary technician experience; AVMA-accredited program preferred; ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays; high attention to detail and proficiency with practice management/EMR software.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate’s degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited program
- Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the state of practice
- VTS in ECC, internal medicine or anesthesia/analgesia a plus
- 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician role; emergency or specialty medicine preferred
- Basic computer skills and EMR software literacy
- Excellent communication and ability to work under pressure
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg (up to 40 kg with assistance)
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with diverse backgrounds
