Job Summary
Emergency Veterinary Assistant (Relief) role at VEG in Brookhaven, GA. As a per diem team member supporting acute ER care, you’ll welcome patients, triage, assist with treatments, nursing care, diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging), catheter placement, oxygen support, anesthesia/sedation setup, IV fluids, and medication administration. You’ll work alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians, join patient rounds, and help ensure continuity of care from exam room to treatment area. Grow into advanced responsibilities such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization through guided training pathways; CPR training and RECOVER certification are provided. The role emphasizes compassionate client communication, rapid learning, and contributing to a dynamic emergency team. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, with the potential to advance through hands-on mentorship and on-the-job training.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus
- 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus)
- Basic computer skills and practice management software/EMR familiarity
- Excellent communication with pet parents and team
- Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, lift up to 25 kg solo and assist up to 40 kg
- Willingness to work in noisy environment with odors
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with diverse colleagues
