Emergency Spill Response Technician/ Hazmat Technician

Job Summary

Respond at a moment's notice to spills involving rail, road, and fixed facilities, performing chemical transloading, neutralization, and decontamination. Organize personnel, equipment, and documentation for response and preparation situations while maintaining all emergency response equipment and customer equipment. Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following procedures, completing documentation, and upholding high safety standards. Set up and participate in live training events to ensure personnel competency. Fulfill on-call requirements with mandatory regional travel including overnight stays. This role supports GFL's HAZMAT Emergency Response Team, providing immediate technical expertise to emergency activations 24/7/365.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to fulfill on-call requirements
  • Experience in a position relating to hazardous materials emergency response
  • Physically fit and able to wear chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection as required
  • Class 5 driver's license with clean abstract
  • Mandatory travel across the regional area, including overnight stays
  • Understanding of vacuum truck and power wash equipment
  • Advanced training including but not limited to: HAZMAT Technician, Tankcar Specialist, Tanktruck Specialist, ICS, Confined Space Entry, etc
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located
  • Team driven and safety focused
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Exceptional communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Class 1 or 3 driver's license
