Job Summary
Respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for service, providing guidance to the public and assisting dispatch of law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel. Operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) equipment and utilize International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch, and Emergency Police Dispatch protocols to prioritize calls. Accurately maintain communication logs, law enforcement activity logs, and call reports while entering and modifying National Crime Information Center files for agencies such as Wanted Persons and Missing Persons. Note that rotating 12-hour shifts, nights, holidays, and weekend work are required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license for the State of North Carolina
- US citizenship or legal authorization to maintain employment in the United States
- Ability to obtain DCI Operator Certification issued by the State of North Carolina within 90 days
- Basic Telecommunicator Certificate from the NC Sheriff's Training & Standards Commission within one year
- CPR certification
- Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification
- Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) certification
- Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) certification
- Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Modules 1-3
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 & 800
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, nights, holidays, and weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of the geography of Sampson County
- Knowledge of telecommunication systems and equipment
- Experience in communication dispatch work
- Relevant training beyond a high school diploma
- A combination of relevant education and experience
