Job Summary
Respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for service and various tasks for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and partnering agencies. Provide guidance and assistance to the public in emergency situations while accurately maintaining communication logs, law enforcement activity logs, and call reports. Effectively operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) equipment to communicate with response personnel and utilize International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch, and Emergency Police Dispatch protocols to prioritize calls. Enter and modify National Crime Information Center files for agencies such as Wanted Persons and Missing Persons. Work rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends. Obtain required certifications including DCI Operator Certification, Basic Telecommunicator Certificate, CPR, and NIMS modules upon employment.
Required Qualifications

- Comprehensive knowledge of the geography of Sampson County
- A valid driver's license for the State of North Carolina
- DCI Operator Certification issued by the State of North Carolina
- Basic Telecommunicator Certificate from the NC Sheriff's Training & Standards Commission
- CPR certification
- Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
- Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD)
- Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD)
- Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Modules 1-3
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 & 800
- US citizenship or legal authorization to maintain employment in the United States
- Rotating 12-hour shifts, nights, holidays, and weekend work
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of telecommunication systems and equipment
- Relevant training beyond a high school diploma with experience in communication dispatch work
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain calm control and exercise sound judgment under the stress of emergency conditions
