Job Summary
Provide emergency medical care to inpatients and outpatients, including responding to "Code Blue" alerts and resuscitation treatment. Collect and record medical and social historical data, perform physical examinations, and make preliminary interpretations of radiographic films and electrocardiograms. Stabilize patients in medical or surgical emergencies, manage cardiopulmonary arrests, and coordinate ambulance dispatch and medical control. Document all encounters, lab results, and treatments in the electronic medical record, ensuring proper coding and adherence to government record management standards. Remain in the emergency room or immediately available throughout the tour of duty, with on-call responsibilities for disaster-type situations and mass casualty events. Conduct house staff teaching, attend department meetings, and review other physicians' charts as required.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.
- Completion of an accredited emergency medicine residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
- Board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
- Completion of an emergency medicine accredited residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
- Board eligible in emergency medicine
- Minimum 2,000 hours of ER experience post residency OR
- Completion of an accredited family practice or pediatrics with internal medicine residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
- Board certified in Family Practice or Pediatrics with Internal Medicine
- Minimum 20 hours per week for the past 12 consecutive months in a similar or higher level III emergency care institution after board certification.
- Minimum two (2) years' experience within the last three (3) years post residency
- Possess and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license in one of the 50 US States and/or territories.
- Possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
- Possess and maintain Advanced Traumatic Life Support (ATLS)
- Possess and maintain Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Possess and maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Possess and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Knowledge of the established medical record procedures, regulations, and principles to carry out a variety of medical record functions such as compiling data, analysis, coding, and quality assurance.
- Ability to become familiar with the hospital formulary.
- Skilled in coding medical data utilizing codes from: Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems [HCPCS], International Classification of Diseases [ICD], and Common Procedural Terminology [CPT].
- Experience performing tasks which may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Consult with consultants as appropriate
- Provide medical advice over the telephone
- Complete all required paperwork
- Should have the required education, training, experience and documented current competence in the required specialty position description.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
- The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
