Job Summary
Develop and implement the Nation's emergency management program, including updating plans, hazard assessments, and resource inventories. Coordinate emergency preparedness, response, and recovery activities while leading FireSmart BC initiatives and wildfire risk reduction projects. Conduct home, neighbourhood, and community assessments to support vegetation management and fuel reduction around cultural sites. Facilitate community engagement through workshops, training sessions, and the development of Community Emergency Response Teams. Assist with grant applications, budget preparation, and after-action reviews to improve resilience protocols. Serve as the designated FireSmart Representative, overseeing Guardians and maintaining accurate project records. Promote Indigenous stewardship practices and culturally significant site protection within emergency planning and response activities.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Emergency Management, Indigenous Governance, Public Administration, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, or a related field
- 2 -4 years experience in emergency management, FireSmart programming, natural resource management, or community development
- Experience working with First Nations communities and Indigenous organizations
- Experience coordinating projects, training, public engagement, or community-based initiatives
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to lead and coordinate during emergencies
- Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal emergency protocols
- Full-time employment
- 35 hours per week
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
