Job Summary
Respond to medical emergencies on Whidbey Island as dispatched by the Island County 9-1-1 center, providing exam, triage, treatment, and transport of patients within the scope of an EMT. Operate Advanced Life Support or Basic Life Support ambulances under the direction of the Medical Program Director, taking vital signs, observing patients, charting, and notifying Paramedics or RNs of condition changes. Conduct daily vehicle inspections, inventory, restocking, cleaning, and maintenance to ensure call availability, while maintaining quarters and ethical confidentiality standards. Complete all paperwork and adhere to state laws and protocols. Minimum two years field experience, valid Washington State EMT certification, and BLS HCP required.
Required Qualifications
- Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- EMT education program
- Minimum of two (2) years field experience in EMS
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Must be insurable by Hospital Insurance carrier, as an emergency vehicle operator
- Must be familiar with all laws pertaining to EMS, including license, vehicle operation and standards
- Must be familiar with all equipment on all vehicles and all communication equipment
- Must demonstrate proficiency as a competent EMT
- Valid Washington State Emergency Medical Technician certification
- Valid Washington State Driver's License
- Current personal auto insurance and is insurable with the District's insurance carrier
- Washington State driving record upon hire and may be subject to annual driving record checks based on facility insurance carrier requirements
- American Heart Association BLS HCP required within 30 days of hire
