Job Summary
Respond to emergency calls to provide immediate care to critically ill and injured patients until ambulance arrival. Open and maintain airways, administer proper ventilation, and assess clinical conditions while acting as a patient advocate. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use automated external defibrillators according to Standard Operating Procedures and Medical Director advisement. Maintain a clean, safe working environment, monitor supply stock levels, and complete written Patient Care Reports with pertinent observations. Ensure patient privacy and adhere to National and State EMS Commission standards of care. Adapt to high and low service activity periods while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
- Certified EMT - State of Indiana
- CPR- (AHA/BLS)
- Healthcare Provider National Registry
- National Registry EMT
- Meets mental and physical requirements of the job
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to relate appropriately to patients, co-workers, clients, and public
- Ability to adapt to period of high service activity and stressful environment, as well as, periods of low activity
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide tasks appropriate to the infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient during an emergency
- Ability to assess need for and perform CPR
- Meets the Standards of Behavior as outlined in Personnel Policy and Procedure #1, Employee Relations Code
- Demonstrates knowledge of procedures for protecting and maintaining security, confidentiality and integrity of employee, patient, family, organizational and other medical information
- Understands and supports the commitment of Methodist Hospitals in adhering to federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing ethical business practices for healthcare providers
