Job Summary
Provide blankets, food, and treatment status updates to ensure general patient satisfaction. Perform peripheral IV placement, phlebotomy, wound care, eye irrigation, and vital signs monitoring. Transport patients to diagnostic tests and assist in acute, code, and disaster situations while collaborating with MDs and RNs. Conduct triage, staging, and treatment of disaster patients; defibrillate patients and perform EKGs. Manage patient flow in crowded ERs, explain delays, and notify physicians of critical patients. Document all procedures, maintain supply par levels, and facilitate diagnostic studies. Ensure physician orders are entered correctly into the computer and comply with infection control standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited EMT-Advanced or EMT-Intermediate training program
- Must have current certification as an EMT-I, EMT-A, or EMT-P
- Must have current certification as an EMT-I, EMT-A, or EMT-P, and CPR
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs max
- Must be able to carry objects up to 35 lbs
- Must be able to stand and walk occasionally to frequently
- Must be able to sit occasionally
- Must be able to perform close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing)
- Must be able to work in an environment with blood-borne pathogen exposure
- Must be able to work in an environment with bio-hazardous waste
- Must be able to work in an environment with chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors
- Must be able to work in an environment with communicable diseases
- Must be able to work in an environment with electrical shock risk
- Must be able to work in an environment with floor surfaces
- Must be able to work in an environment with hot/cold temperatures
- Must be able to work in an environment with indoor/outdoor conditions
- Must be able to work in an environment with latex
- Must be able to work in an environment with lighting variations
- Must be able to work in an environment with patient care/handling injuries
- Must be able to work in an environment with radiation
- Must be able to work in an environment with shift work
- Must be able to travel
- Must be able to use personal protective equipment, including respirators
Desired Qualifications
- One year related experience preferred
- Previous ED experience preferred
