Job Summary
Provide blankets, food, and treatment status updates to ensure patient satisfaction while adhering to Standards of Care. Perform peripheral IV placement, phlebotomy, blood cultures, urinary catheter insertion, and placement of orthopedic splints. Conduct wound care, bandaging, irrigation, and eye irrigation using normal saline or Morgan lens. Monitor vital signs, perform accuchecks, and assist in acute and code situations including Code Blue disaster team response. Transport patients to diagnostic tests and floors, assist with patient flow during crowded ERs, and facilitate diagnostic studies. Defibrillate patients with AEDs, suction, place patients on monitors, and perform EKGs and point-of-care testing. Notify physicians of critical patients, explain delays to waiting room patients, and collaborate with the care team. Manage equipment needs, maintain supply par levels, and ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited EMT-Advanced or EMT-Intermediate training program
- Must have current certification as an EMT-I, EMT-A, or EMT-P
- Must have current certification as an EMT-I, EMT-A, or EMT-P, and CPR
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs max
- Must be able to carry objects up to 35 lbs
- Must be able to stand and walk occasionally to frequently
- Must be able to sit occasionally
- Must be able to perform close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing)
- Must be able to work in an environment with blood-borne pathogen exposure
- Must be able to work in an environment with bio-hazardous waste
- Must be able to work in an environment with chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors
- Must be able to work in an environment with communicable diseases
- Must be able to work in an environment with electrical shock
- Must be able to work in an environment with floor surfaces
- Must be able to work in an environment with hot/cold temperatures
- Must be able to work in an environment with indoor/outdoor conditions
- Must be able to work in an environment with latex
- Must be able to work in an environment with lighting
- Must be able to work in an environment with patient care/handling injuries
- Must be able to work in an environment with radiation
- Must be able to work in an environment with shift work
- Must be able to travel
- Must be able to use personal protective equipment, including respirators
Desired Qualifications
- One year related experience preferred
- Previous ED experience preferred
