Job Summary
Assist licensed nursing personnel and physicians in the care of patients by performing various patient care activities and related non-professional services. Initiate and reassess vital signs including pulse oximetry, document findings, and report to the nurse. Effectively position patients for examinations and procedures, assist with transportation, and ensure proper patient identification. Perform phlebotomy according to protocol, provide orthopedic services such as splint application and removal, and document clinical care and pertinent observations on appropriate records. Complete mandatory and unit-specific competency requirements while modeling appropriate behavior consistent with the organization's mission and values.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Degree or Diploma Emerg Medical Tech (EMT)
- Emergency Medical Personnel Tennessee - Tennessee Emergency Medical Services Division
- BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
- Ability to read, write, and understand verbal or written instructions
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally with others
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times according to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements
- Must be able to communicate effectively and in a positive manner with patients, family, public, and other health care workers
- Must be able to cope with stressful situations, including death and dying and dealing with anguished relatives
- Must have good balance and coordination
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently
- Close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations
