Job Summary
Triage, treat, and monitor patients through diagnostics, anesthesia, and critical care support while managing IVs, blood transfusions, and advanced procedures like endoscopy and ultrasounds. Collaborate with doctors to deliver gold standard care from triage to discharge, performing CPR and maintaining calm under pressure in a fast-paced, noisy environment. Handle sample collection, place tubes, and support fragile patients with advanced techniques including central lines. Work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis as a credentialed Registered Veterinary Technician.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and associate's degree or higher in veterinary technology from an accredited program
- Credentialed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in the province the VEG practice is located
- 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician role
- Basic computer skills and a comprehension of practice management software and electronic medical record keeping
- Excellent communicator and ability to maintain calm under pressure
- Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor as well as the ability to lift up to 25 kg on own and able to support up to 40 kg with assistance
- Must be willing to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odours
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as needed basis based on hospital needs
- Work well in a fast-paced environment with people from all backgrounds and different personality types
Desired Qualifications
- VTS in ECC, internal medicine or anesthesia/analgesia
- Experience in emergency or specialty medicine
