Emergency Care Technician (ECT) - Emergency Department (ED) - St. Joseph Warren Hospital

Job Summary

Provide direct patient care under RN guidance by performing vital sign measurements, lab draws, ECGs, wound care, and personal hygiene. Assist with patient mobility, transport, and positioning while ensuring 1:1 safety companionship and accurate documentation in EPIC. Act as a liaison between patients and nurses to report changes, manage high-stress situations, and maintain universal precautions for blood and hazardous substances. Work nights in the Emergency Department with 36 scheduled weekly hours, requiring STNA certification and BLS training.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current certification per state requirements for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting
  • STNA certification
  • or be in nursing school
  • Previous experience working as a Patient Care Tech, within a nursing support role or previous healthcare experience
  • or second-year nursing student from a Registered Nurse (RN) program
  • Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel
  • Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions
  • Prolonged periods of working alone
  • May be required to use physical restraints
  • May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials
  • May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust, wind, etc
  • Must obtain BLS Basic Life Support from the approved source prior to direct patient care

Desired Qualifications

  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire)
  • Current certification per state requirements for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting (preferred)
  • STNA (required) or be in nursing school (preferred)
  • Previous experience working as a Patient Care Tech, within a nursing support role or previous healthcare experience (preferred)
  • or second-year nursing student from a Registered Nurse (RN) program (preferred)
