Job Summary

EMC Mechanical Services is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the Project Manager across mechanical construction projects in Richmond, VA. Responsibilities include project planning and execution, documentation management (schedules, contracts, meeting notes, progress reports), facilitating communications among clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, conducting regular site visits to monitor progress and ensure compliance with specifications, tracking budgets and preparing cost reports, supporting quality control processes, identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies, and compiling status reports for stakeholders. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, 2-4 years of related experience, familiarity with HVAC/plumbing/piping and applicable codes, proficiency with MS Project and Primavera, strong organizational and communication skills, a valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean record, and the ability to meet physical requirements (lifting, climbing) and to work office-based with site visits. The position is based in Richmond, Virginia, with primary office duties and regular on-site project oversight.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in project management or engineering roles, preferably in mechanical contracting or construction
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and piping; familiarity with relevant codes and regulations
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and Microsoft Excel; strong MS Office skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; professional interaction with clients, team members, and subcontractors
  • Ability to monitor budgets, track expenses, and prepare cost reports; experience with project documentation (schedules, contracts, meeting notes, progress reports)
  • Willingness to conduct site visits; comfort with site-based activities and coordinating with stakeholders
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and a clean driving record; compliance with driving requirements (age 21+, no recent DUI/DWI)
  • Ability to crawl, kneel, squat, and climb; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to work extended periods as needed
  • Working knowledge of quality assurance processes and risk mitigation in construction projects
