Embedded Software Engineer

Job Summary
Design and maintain the pytest-based integration test framework for microcontroller firmware running on Hardware-in-the-Loop setups. Leverage embedded background knowledge of MCU architecture, memory constraints, and peripheral behavior to write meaningful integration tests that validate firmware functionality for power management, diagnostics, communication interfaces, and thermal management within Volvo's electric vehicle infotainment systems. Contribute to tooling, flashing scripts, and the embedded C/C++ codebase to support the development workflow. This role is ideal for an embedded engineer who enjoys Python and is excited to apply their microcontroller expertise in a testing-focused capacity at the Krakow Tech Hub.
Required Qualifications

- Experience in embedded software development
- understanding of MCU architecture

- Good programming skills in Python
- practical experience in pytest or similar test frameworks
- Experience with or strong interest in test automation
- Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing
- Ability to write and maintain embedded C/C++ code
- read and navigate existing firmware codebases
- Familiarity with common communication protocols such as CAN, UART, I2C, or SPI
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems concepts
- exposure to SafeRTOS or similar RTOS
- Some familiarity with embedded toolchains (e.g., IAR, GCC) or debugging tools (e.g., ST-Link)
- Experience with version control (Git)
- willingness to work within CI/CD workflows
- Interest in scripting for device flashing, automation, and developer tooling
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Previous professional experience in the automotive industry
- especially within embedded systems or infotainment domain
Desired Qualifications
- ARM Cortex-M preferred
- exposure to SafeRTOS or similar RTOS is an advantage
- Some familiarity with embedded toolchains (e.g., IAR, GCC) or debugging tools (e.g., ST-Link)
