Job Summary
Design and maintain payload control software for SAR instruments, implementing mode management, initialization, and operational sequencing. Develop interfaces with avionics, C&DH systems, and telemetry/telecommand subsystems while executing real-time control algorithms for payload scheduling. Build health monitoring and fault detection mechanisms, integrating software with RF front-ends, FPGA units, and onboard processors using protocols like SpaceWire and CAN. Support calibration, ground testing, and Flatsat verification by creating unit and integration tests alongside design documentation. Collaborate with systems and hardware teams to deliver flight-quality software compliant with space mission standards, ensuring reliability throughout the spacecraft lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in embedded software or real-time systems development
- Strong programming skills in C and C++
- Experience with embedded Linux or real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS, etc
- Knowledge of software architecture, multithreading, synchronisation, and concurrency
- Experience with hardware interfaces and embedded communication protocols
- Familiarity with software debugging using JTAG, logic analysers, and oscilloscopes
- Experience with version control systems such as Git
- Understanding of software development lifecycle, configuration management, and continuous integration
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in satellite payload software or spacecraft onboard software
- Knowledge of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems and radar operating principles
- Experience with CCSDS telemetry and tele command standards
- Familiarity with ECSS or NASA software engineering standards
- Experience with SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553, or other spacecraft communication protocols
- Knowledge of FPGA interaction and hardware/software co-design
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Understanding of orbital operations and spacecraft subsystems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail in safety- and mission-critical software development
- Ability to manage multiple technical tasks in a fast-paced development environment
