Job Summary
Embedded Python Engineer based in Latin America, working on a long-term project for a client in the US. Responsibilities include architecting and implementing Python/MicroPython firmware for microcontrollers and SBCs (Raspberry Pi, ESP32, STM32, Jetson Nano, etc.), building hardware abstraction layers, sensor drivers, and communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB); deploying and optimizing ML models (TFLite, ONNX) for real-time edge inference with quantization/pruning; profiling and memory/latency/power tuning with C/C++ interop as needed; designing hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for firmware releases; defining architecture standards and mentoring junior engineers; collaborating with hardware engineers during PCB bring-up and prototype validation. Desirable bonus points include experience with TensorFlow Lite Micro, OpenVINO, ROS/ROS2, OpenCV, OPC-UA/Modbus, open-source embedded contributions, and a Bachelor's Degree in CS/Systems Engineering or related fields. Long-term positions with compensation in USD, PTO, and opportunities to work with strong engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of Python development experience
- 3+ years embedded or hardware-adjacent
- Hands-on MicroPython or CircuitPython
- RTOS concepts, interrupt handling, DMA, memory management
- Edge ML model deployment (TFLite, ONNX or similar)
- C/C++ FFI/interop (ctypes, Cython, cffi)
- UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Modbus, MQTT
- Linux-based embedded platforms and cross-compilation
- Debugging with oscilloscopes/logic analyzers/GDB
